JEDCO Proposal
The proposed design for the Jerusalem Electricity Company building presents a new Architectural model for service building design. The design is based on the relationship between internal and external spaces and the building's relationship with its general surroundings. The design revolves around several axes, the most important of which is its' harmony and consistency with its surrounding environment and local climate, which created several opportunities to strengthen the relationship between its interior and exterior spaces and their relation to the surrounding environment. In addition, the location of the land and its near perpendicularity with the south created an opportunity to create comfortable workspaces that blend seamlessly with the exterior surroundings stengthened by the use of the roof gardens. Emphasis was placed on creating workspaces with an open character, opening onto internal and external gardens and airy corridors that positively influence and stimulate the work environment. In designing the Roof Gardens and False Facades, we relied on architectural elements such as solid walls and sunbreaks, which help ventilate and shade the spaces in a natural and harmonious manner. These elements employ the movement of the sun and wind to achieve the best methods for natural ventilation and natural lighting, while manipulating the natural light to produce lively and stimulating spaces. Strong emphasis was placed on creating a Monumental yet highly functional and environment-friendly building to reflect the importance of the building whilst being in harmony with its' surrounding environment without dominating over its site.
